FLYING INSECTS

All insects equipped with wings are called flying insects. Flieswasps and moths are among the best-known flying insects in AmericaFlying insects often contact pathogens or excrement and then pass directly onto food, among other things. The pathogens are transported through all parts of the body and excretions.

Properties of flying insects

The life cycle of flying insects typically goes through four stages: egg, larva (caterpillar, maggot), pupa/cocoon and adult insect, which usually has wings. The wings are made of thin sheets of chitin. The body of flying insects is divided into three parts. It consists of the head, the chest with six legs and the abdomen.

Flying insects as pests

Flying insects can be responsible for considerable damage:

  • Contamination of raw materials, products and food with excrement, web and moulting residues, larvae or pupae
  • Production losses
  • Destruction of goods, collapse in sales
  • Loss of trust on the part of customers and consumers, customer churn, claims for damages.
  • Requirements due to non-compliance with applicable laws
  • Loss of clothing and fabrics
  • Damage to wooden structures and wooden products
  • Transmission of pathogens
  • Swelling and pain from insect stings and bites

For this reason, it is important to react as quickly as possible in the event of an infestation and to contact AAA Termites and Pest Control.

To fly

FliesFlies reproduce very quickly. An adult fly lays up to 1,000 eggs; under optimal conditions, some flies can cause a plague of flies within a few weeks!

The main diet of flies includes decayed organic substances, such as ripening food and faeces. Since billions of germs romp on it and flies can transfer them to everything they land on, flies represent a particular hygienic danger. Incredible but true: a single housefly transmits up to 2 million bacteria.

The most common types of flies in America are the common housefly and the fruit fly.

Wasps

WaspBecause of their painful stings, wasps are perceived by many as a danger. Wasps only sting for self-protection, i.e. as soon as they feel threatened. A wasp sting is not only excruciating; it can even be life-threatening for allergy sufferers.

Wasps prefer sheltered places with little sun for building their wasp nests. They mainly use dark cavities in and around the house, such as house walls, garages, attics or roller shutter boxes.

Moths

Moths are divided into storage-damaging moths (food moths) and material damaging moths (textile moths). Moths are very annoying because a moth infestation causes damage to clothe and contamination of food. In addition, once moths have established themselves, they are challenging to get rid of.

The caterpillars of the food moths have an extensive range of food. For example, they feed on dried fruit, chocolate, nuts, grain products, tobacco and tea and contaminate them with webs and excrement. In this way, stocks and products are contaminated and unusable. In addition, food moths can cause health hazards (e.g. allergies, gastrointestinal diseases).

The caterpillars of the textile moths feed mainly on animal materials and thus cause pitting and bald spots on textiles, leather, furs and carpets. They produce uneven holes.
